How else would you describe the meeting of two self employed, single divorced parents, both dedicated teachers and both without enough hours in their days; but both desperately longing to bring music back into the center of their lives?
When a mutual friend suggested back in June, 2008 that we meet, none of us could have imagined the music, magic and love that would ensue. Come and share it with us - roberto & kathryn
Roberto Mighty
Roberto's come a long way from learning to play Jimi Hendrix riffs by ear when he was 13.
After years as an electric lead guitarist and bandleader in blues, rock and funk combos, Roberto graduated from college, built a recording studio and spent ten years as a successful writer and arranger of music for radio and TV.
Now, Roberto's fallen head-over-heels in love with the harmonic density, romantic lyrics and complex melodies of the Great American Songbook.
Roberto began singing just a few years ago, studying at home and taking courses with Joe Dellapenna and Lee Soto. His influences include Jose Feliciano, Joe Pass, Frank Sinatra, George Benson, Al Jarreau, Jon Lucien, Jimi Hendrix and Nat King Cole.
"My guitar and singing styles emphasize the sensuality of the lyrics and chord changes. I own many different instruments, but this music sounds best to me when played acoustically, as dynamically as possible, on my Brazilian flamenco guitar."
Kathryn Howell
Kathryn can't imagine an activity more natural than performing. She's been singing and performing since the age of 4.
An Actor's Equity Association actress as well, Kathryn has played at the Wilbur and the Charles in downtown Boston, as well as other New England theaters such as Worcester Foothills, Theater By The Sea (Portsmouth, NH), and Gloucester Stage in roles as diverse as Molly (and Ms.Caswell) in 'The Mousetrap' to Rhetta Cupp in 'Pump Boys and Dinettes'.
Kathryn's musical influences are wide ranging with roots spreading across movie musicals, turn of the century and folk music, broadway musicals, opera, pop, rock and jazz /blues. For her each genre is a gift to explore and experience.
As a songwriter, Kathryn enjoys combining her love of music with her love of words. Like her musical roots, her compositions explore many genres; but Kathryn's favorite originals seem to fall closest to her first musical love: jazz standards.
